This is a very stylish looking gate and being mesh you can still see through. Unlike metal gates which we have used in the past, this rolls back out of the way when not in use. It was a bit fiddly to close at first but once you get used to the knack it's fine. My only negative is that at £52.99 it's way expensive if you are only going to use it now and then.

The sturdy mesh easily covers wide entrances and stairs. It’s simple to install, and I like that it folds up when not in use, saving space compared to bulky gates. The latch is secure and easy for adults to open—really perfect.

The mesh design is nice because it's see-through, so I can keep an eye on my child even when the gate is closed. I also like that it's retractable, making it easy to roll up and out of the way when not in use. It works well both indoors and outdoors, adding to its versatility. Installation was fairly straightforward, and the gate adjusts to fit various openings with ease. It's also sturdy and has held up well to my toddler's attempts to climb over it. The only slight downside is that it takes a bit of effort to lock and unlock.

If you already know you need a gate like this for a dog or child, then you really have 2 choices from what I can see: - A roller/mesh style gate that may not be as strong and isn't see through or - A metal gate which is strong and is easy to see through There are plusses and minuses for both, the negative for the fixed metal gate is that when it opens it takes up a lot of room and is quite ugly. The beauty of this device is that it rolls up neatly into its own compartment. The negative of this one on the other hand is that you can't see through it so if your house is set up where you'd like to be able to see little Timmy or Spot waiting outside the gate then you'll prefer a metal gate. As far as assembly and mounting it was quite straightforward but some holes are required to mount it properly. Again with a metal gate those are often more easily put up temporarily by using tension rods to spread it out to hold itself up. Recommended if it fits your situation!

TLDR: I really want to love this product it almost works. But my 1 year as well as our two cats can easily push the gate and unseat the clips even when it’s tightened. The instructions are good and the template makes set up very easy. The quality of the materials are generally good. The locking mechanism does get a bit stuck sometimes. What I’ve realised is that whilst in theory this is a very flexible design where you can adapt to different situations and environments, the clip placement is critical. Also if you have a determined toddler they will eventually unlock it. What the design needs is something that prevents the clips from unlatching. I’ll probably end up drilling a hole through the clip and using a carabiner to lock it in place but this is fiddly. Need a slight design rethink.

This goes genuinely very wide so it’s great for wider hallways. It fixes to the wall with some straightforward fixings. It is lightweight and it is unobtrusive when retracted. It’s easy to use and seems a fair quality. I think it will look quite dirty over time though and it isn’t sturdy so if you think your toddler or pet will lean into it, I would not position it at the top of a staircase. In an ideal world I would like to use its versatility of length to create more options for controlling our space by going across two different parts of the hallway with multiple fixings, but that isn’t a possibility for now.

The Retractable Baby Gate has been a great addition to our home, especially with a little one running around. The mesh design is sturdy yet flexible, and I love that it can extend up to 55" wide, which works perfectly for our large doorway. It’s also a relief to know that it doubles as a dog gate, keeping both our toddler and pets safe. The gate is easy to retract and takes up minimal space when not in use, which is a real bonus. Occasionally, it takes a few attempts to get it to roll back smoothly, which can be a bit frustrating, especially when you’re in a rush. That said, it’s a small issue in the grand scheme of things, and overall, the gate does a fantastic job of keeping areas safe and separated. I’d definitely recommend it for anyone needing a flexible and reliable safety gate. 4 out of 5.
